Our impact

People are more than a moment of need.

These representative narratives illustrate how practical support removes barriers while keeping people’s dignity, effort and privacy at the centre.

Safeguarding & privacy commitment

To protect the dignity and confidentiality of patients, students and children in residential care, case details are generalized from real programme experiences across Baltistan.

01 · Medical support

A route to treatment

A patient from a remote valley had delayed follow-up because each trip required transport, food and time away from work. When symptoms worsened, the family received a hospital referral in Skardu but could not meet all the costs at once. SWF reviewed the clinical documents, helped arrange transport and contributed to essential diagnostic tests. A relative stayed at the Patient Attendants’ Shelter Home during treatment. With several practical barriers removed, the patient completed the recommended hospital visit and returned home with a clear care plan.

02 · Scholarships

A year of learning

A dedicated student had earned a place in further education, but tuition fees, books and regular travel costs exceeded what the household could manage that year. Following an academic and household review during a scholarship cycle, SWF approved educational support for the academic year. The scholarship allowed the student to stay enrolled, complete coursework on time, and mentor younger learners preparing for school examinations.

03 · Household relief

Warmth through winter

Seasonal work ended earlier than expected after severe weather affected mountain travel. One household began stretching meals and postponing the purchase of winter clothing. A community referral led to a private needs assessment by the SWF team. SWF provided a family ration package and warm winter essentials during the weeks when the household’s income gap was most acute, protecting nutrition and warmth until work resumed.

04 · Residential care

A steady place to grow

Following a major loss in family circumstances that disrupted schooling and daily stability, a young resident was welcomed into SWF’s residential care after a safeguarded assessment. Consistent meals, attentive caregivers, regular school attendance and structured study support helped restore a sense of security and routine—providing the time, safety and encouragement needed to learn and grow with confidence.
